David W. Bitler

David W. Bitler, 73, of Muncy, died Sunday, January 18, 2026, at his home surrounded by his family.

Born June 14, 1952, in Muncy, he was a son of the late Dallas C. Bitler and Grace Ida Bitler Houseweart (Pickard). David grew up on his family’s farm in Unityville and was a graduate of Hughesville High School and Williamsport Area Community College. He was employed as a Parts Manager at various auto shops for many years.

David and his wife Effie shared a wonderful and loving life together and would have celebrated 52 years of marriage on February 2, 2026. David was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed restoring classic cars and attending car shows, snowmobiling, and watching movies, especially action movies. He also loved spending time with his granddaughters, Kaylee and Kiah. He was a member of the former Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church in Talmar. David was also a member of the Scottish Rite, Oriental Lodge in Orangeville, the Order of the Eastern Star, and 40 et8 Highland Lake.

He is survived by his loving wife, Doris (Effie) Bitler of Muncy; daughters, Jaime Bitler of Hughesville, Jackie Minier of Benton; granddaughters, Kaylee (Brandon) Shoemaker, Bloomsburg, and Kiah (John Brothers) Minier, Hughesville; brothers-in-law, Roger (Jeannie) Charles, Benton, Dwight (Jodie) Charles, Hughesville, Mark Charles, Benton, Jay (Michele) Charles, Unityville; sister-in-law, Cheryl Charles, Muncy; also many nieces and nephews. Aside from his parents, David was also predeceased by his brother-in-law, Marvin Charles, Jr.

Funeral Services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, January 23, 2026, at McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home – Hughesville, 557 E. Water St. Hughesville, Pennsylvania. Burial will follow at Wesley Chapel Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home-Hughesville.
