Eldon B. Rider
Eldon B. Rider passed away quietly on Friday, January 9, 2026. In his words “he was ready to go.” He recently lost his wife, Ada, in June of last year.
He was born in Newberry, PA on June 21, 1931. He was a son of the late Bryan Rider and Emma M. Lockcuff Rider. After his father’s passing at an early age, Eldon was sent to Girard School for Boys in Philadelphia. He remained there from first grade until he graduated. His fondest memories were spending his summers with his beloved grandmother, Della Lockcuff. After graduation, at the age of 17, he enlisted in the US Navy. After completing basic training in the Great Lakes, he was assigned for four years to the destroyer, USS Cassin Young. He mainly served in the South Pacific during the Korean Conflict. He did however get to see many ports around the world and the USA. Eldon was very proud of his service and loved to tell stories about those days. The USS Cassin Young 793 is now a museum ship in the Boston harbor, docked next to the USS Constitution.
After his tour in the Navy, he returned to Williamsport area to work and settle down. Eldon was introduced on a blind date to Ada Mae Camp. They were married in 1956 and settled in Montoursville, bought their first home and had two daughters, Brenda and Kelly.
Together with Ada, they enjoyed a wide group of friends from the Zafar Grotto and great neighbors.
