Augustus O. “Bud” Thomas II

Augustus O. “Bud” Thomas, II, 98, of Williamsport, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 10, 2026 at his home, surrounded by his daughters.

He was the beloved husband of the late Gloria Jane (Stahler) Thomas with whom he shared 65 years of marriage until her passing in 2016.

Born November 11, 1927 in Harrisburg, Bud was the son of the late Paul A. and Madge M. (Murphy) Thomas.

After graduating from Harrisburg High School, he earned his B.S.E.E. from Penn State University, where he was active in Phi Delta Theta fraternity and an MVP on the lacrosse team. He worked as an Electrical Engineer for 40 years with PPL Co.

He was an active member of First United Methodist Church in Williamsport and its Chancel Choir for 55 years. He served as President of the Susquehanna chapter of the PA Society of Professional Engineers and President of the Tiadaghton chapter of The Sons of the American Revolution. He was also a member of Masonic Lodge 106 and Ivy Lodge 397, F & A.M., as well as a 32nd degree member of the Williamsport Consistory.

A true Renaissance man, Bud was an athlete, artist, writer, and Ham radio operator (call sign KC3Q) as well as a much-loved husband and father. He was passionate about sailing, golf, sketching, and especially the search for family genealogy, which took him and Gloria around the country and overseas, culminating in three published books.

Mr. Thomas is survived by his three daughters, Audrey T. Leath (Kevin) of Greeneville, TN, Diane K. Thomas of Williamsport and Nancy E. Thomas (Dr. craig John Alimo) of Richmond, CA; and two brothers, John S. Thomas of Bradenton, FL and Dr. Paul A. Thomas Jr. (Dr. Eva Hernandez) of Western Springs, Ill.

A Memorial Service to honor Bud will be held on Tuesday, February 17, 2026 at 1:00 PM at First Church, 604 Market Street, Williamsport, PA 17701 (use Ross Street entrance).

A celebration and graveside service will be held later in the Spring in Allentown, PA.
