Mary Jeanne Fry
Mary Jeanne Fry, 92, of Montoursville, died Saturday, Feb. 21, 2026, at her home. Born May 10, 1933, in Elstie, she was the daughter of Paul Holmberg and Bessie (Gauntner) Holmberg. Jeanne married Dale R. Fry on August 16, 1952, and shared years of marriage prior to his passing on Dec. 21, 1995. Jeanne and her husband shared a wonderful life.
Mary was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother, who enjoyed spending time with her family.
She was a lifelong member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church of Montoursville. Jeanne enjoyed interacting with people whether they were gourmet patrons, students or strangers in the crowd. Her outgoing personality and caring nature were ever present as she worked as a server and a cafeteria cashier.
She retired from Muncy Area School District after 35 years of service. After retiring Jeanne continued to waitress at The Hillside and The Peter Herdic House until her 80th birthday.
Jeanne (Gram/Dee Dee) spent many hours cheering on her children and grandchildren at their numerous sporting events.
She was also an avid reader and usually had a book nearby, just in case she had any free time. One of her early desires in life was to have a large family, and boy, did she get her wish.
Jeanne is survived by daughters, Wanda J. (Lee) Abernatha, Cynthia K. (Edwin) Stugart, Michelle A. Flannery, Lynette L. Smurl, Tricia R. Cascio, all of Montoursville; sons, Gregory G. (Tina) Fry, of Montoursville, Jeffery D. (Dawn) Fry, of Montoursville, Christopher M. (Pamela) Fry, of Harveys Lake; 16 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and 11 great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Jeanne was preceded in death by her husband, Dale R. Fry; son, Mitchell D. Fry; grandson, Nathan Stugart; sister, Catherine Shirk; brothers, Raymond and Russell Holmberg; daughter-in-law, Ellen Fry; sons-in-law, Louis Cascio, and Christopher Smurl.
Funeral mass will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 3, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 100 Walnut St. Montoursville, with Rev. Father Sean Carpenter officiating. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 2, at the McCarty Thomas Funeral Home, 733 Broad Street, Montoursville.
