Samuel L. “Sam” Pecchia

Samuel L. “Sam” Pecchia, 91, of Nippenose Valley, passed away on January 31, 2026.

Samuel was born on October 9, 1934, in Avis, PA. He was the son of the late Salvatore Pecchia and the former Annie Magent.

Sam graduated from Jersey Shore Area High School in 1952, where he played the trumpet and was class valedictorian. He earned his B.S. in mathematics and science education from the Lock Haven State Teachers College in 1957 and retired in 1992 from the Montoursville Area School District as a math teacher. From 1957 to 1963 he served in the U.S. Army National Guard. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Bastress and previously had been a member of the Church of Saint Luke in Jersey Shore where he taught religious education classes. After his retirement, Sam enjoyed attending daily mass followed by breakfast with his fellow attendees.

Sam had a strong faith and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He also enjoyed spending time watching and cheering on the Philadelphia Phillies and Philadelphia Eagles.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased in death by his wife, the former JoAnn Lorson. They were united in marriage on March 30, 1968, in the Church of Saint Luke in Jersey Shore. He was also predeceased by two brothers, Joseph and Franklin Pecchia.

Sam is survived by two children, Mary (Jay) Maneval and John (Amy) Pecchia, both of Jersey Shore. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Jacob (Sophia) Maneval, Dominic Maneval, Luke Maneval, Sara Pecchia, and Daniel Pecchia.

A visitation will be held from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Monday, February 9, 2026 at Frederick B. Welker Funeral Home, 125 N. Main St., Jersey Shore. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, February 9 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 5973 Jacks Hollow Road, Williamsport. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
