Georgia S. Burch
Georgia S. Burch, 93, of Williamsport, passed away peacefully Wednesday, March 4, 2026 at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
Born October 3, 1932, in Oil City, she was a daughter of the late Jefferson M. and Grace (Baker) Sharp.
After graduating from Oil City High School, Georgia pursued her love for teaching at Evanston Teachers College before earning a B.A. in Education from the University of Pittsburgh. She taught elementary school in the Oil City School District before moving to Williamsport. Even after her official teaching duties ended, she continued to impart her musical talents to students by teaching violin at home and later in life, serving as a substitute music teacher for the Williamsport Area School District.
Georgia’s love for music extended far beyond the classroom. For 28 years, she played second violin with the Williamsport Symphony Orchestra. Her melodious spirit also found expression through her involvement with the Trinity Episcopal Church choir and also volunteered her time as a Sunday School teacher at Trinity.
Alongside her musical talents, Georgia was an ardent supporter of Lycoming College Basketball and enjoyed the camaraderie of the “Women of Lycoming.” She regularly enjoyed neighborhood walks, exercising at the YMCA, and playing bridge with many.
She wed her beloved husband, Clarence “Dutch” Burch, on September 3, 1954. Together, they embarked on a journey of love and partnership that continued until Dutch’s passing on Sept. 8, 2012. The legacy of their love lives on through their four children, Susan B. Caravaggio (Steven) of Williamsport, Stephen W. Burch of Williamsport, Samuel C. Burch (Dawn) of South Williamsport, and Seth B. Burch (Debi) of Williamsport, granddaughters, Anna Caravaggio, Mersadies Burch, and Gabriela Burch. She was preceded in death by her siblings Jefferson Sharp, III, William Sharp, Polly Sharp, Jean Sharp, and Ann Edelson.
A time of visitation will be held 1-2 pm Saturday, March 14, at Trinity Pro-Cathedral Church 844 West Fourth St. Williamsport, followed by a memorial service to honor Georgia’s life at 2 p.m. Interment will be held in the church columbarium.
