Leona Haugh

Leona Haugh, 85, formerly of Hughesville, died Monday, March 9, 2026, at her daughter’s residence.

Born June 14,1940, in Spring Mills, she was a daughter of the late Clarence Rishel and Helen Rishel (Hosterman). Leona graduated from Penns Valley High School in June 1958. She married her husband, Robert Haugh, on April 26, 1959 and they celebrated 50 wonderful years of marriage up until his passing on February 18, 2009.

Leona was employed at Grange Bank and then became a teacher at My Preschool at Bethany for 18 years. She was a devoted member of Bethany United Methodist Church (The Beacon: A United Methodist Church) in Hughesville, where she served on the administrative board, the preschool board, and was a trustee. She was also a member of Bethany Women.

Leona was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

She loved playing games, cards, and Spinner with her family and friends. Leona also enjoyed playing Bocce ball and bowling. She delighted in having breakfast with friends, staying connected with her high school classmates and working in the Bethany kitchen, and she especially appreciated Sunday dinners with her family. She was a devoted Grange Fair tenter and tented for many decades. Like her father before her, she read every line in the newspaper daily.

She is survived by daughters, Lea Ann Hawk of Watsontown, and Kelli Haugh of Muncy; son, Tim (Sherie) Haugh of State College; grandchildren; Connor Holmes, Jenna Holmes, Erin Holmes, Chandler Haugh, and Michael (Hannah) Haugh; great-granddaughters, Hayden Haugh and Eliot Holmes; sisters, Phyllis Musser of Binghamton, NY, and Cindy (Dick) Decker of Centre Hall.

Aside from her husband and parents, Leona is also preceded in death by siblings; Marie Von Neida, Dean Rishel, Allen Rishel, Donald Rishel, Richard Rishel, Wayne Rishel, Grace Luttner, Beatrice Stover, Dorothy Long, and Gladys Hartley.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 14, 2026, at The Beacon: A United Methodist Church, 146 S. Main St. Hughesville, with Pastor Kevin St. Martin officiating. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, 557 E. Water St, Hughesville.
