Ross Marzzacco
Ross Marzzacco, “Pop Pop,” passed away Saturday, March 21, at the home of his daughter and son in law.
Ross was born October 4, 1925 in his beloved Stavertown, Jersey Shore. He was the son of the late Joseph and Mary Pagnotto Marzzacco.
Drafted his senior year he was a proud veteran of WWII, serving honorably, with the 69th Division in France, England, Belgium and Germany. He received his high school diploma years later from Jersey Shore Area High School. Through the years he was employed by Williamsport
Textile as a weaver, AVCO Lycoming, and finally retiring from Pullman Products Co. He was a member of Local 520 Plumbers and Pipefitters Union.
Ross was married to the former Kathleen B. Eck in 1947. He loved and cared for her until her passing in 1994. Together they had two children, the late Joseph P., and Rossene Steppe with whom he lived the past 21 years.
Ross was a dedicated member of Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church until its closing, now St. Joseph the Worker. In his retirement, he served the church as an Alter Pappy. He was a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 366.
Surviving is a daughter and son in law Rossene and Stephen Steppe; three grandchildren, Angela (Gary) Holmes, Kathleen (Ken) Flerlage, and Joseph (Sherry Steppe). He is also survived by his 8 great grandchildren, Rebecca, Mason and Jillian Holmes, Ross and Ella Flerlage, and Hannah, Maya, and Nina Steppe.
Besides his parents, wife, and son, he is preceded in death by his siblings, 6 brothers, Charles, Carl, William (Sonny), John, Thomas, and Paul, and 3 sisters, Carrie Chapell, Carmella Wolf and Jeanette Haggarty.
There will be no visitation. A funeral mass will be held at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Jersey Shore at 10:30 a.m., Friday, March 27 followed by burial in Jersey Shore Cemetery with full military honors conducted by the Jersey Shore Honor Guard.
