Brenda Rake

Brenda Rake, 80, of Williamsport, passed away Monday, April 20, 2026 at Valley View Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She is survived by her loving husband of almost 38 years, Barry K. Rake.

Born May 26, 1945, in Vestal, NY, she was a daughter of the late Paul and Doris (Rielly) Rice.

Brenda was a 1963 graduate of Jersey Shore Area High School and went on to earn a bachelors degree in education from Bloomsburg University. She was proud to have spent more than 30 years teaching elementary school (kindergarten) in the Jersey Shore Area School District.

In her free time, Brenda was a member and dedicated volunteer at Saint John’s Newberry United Methodist Church. She was a member of different committees there and always enjoyed helping wherever she was needed. Brenda was a home body who loved to be at home, spending time reading novels, completing new crafts, and learning new things every day.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by three children, Darin Nestlerode (Paula), of NC, Karen Maculaey and Susan McNutt, both from FL; three grandchildren, Cody, Tyler, both of DE, and Kellie, of FL; a brother, Ronald “Ron” Rice (Hazel), of CA; and her two beloved cats, Sugar and Spice.

A memorial service to honor Brenda’s life will be held 11 a.m., Friday, May 1, at Saint John’s Newberry United Methodist Church, 2101 Newberry Street, Williamsport, PA. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of service, Friday, at church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Brenda’s name to Saint John’s Newberry United Methodist Church, or Saint John’s School of the Arts, 1157 Market Street, Williamsport, PA 17701.
