Leland Whipple

Leland Whipple, 85, of Montoursville, died Monday, April 6, 2026, at Heritage Springs Memory Care of Montoursville. Born October 21, 1940, in Sayre, PA, he was a son of Leland M. and Ettie M. (Converse) Whipple. Leland married Bonita L. Payne on August 21, 1959, and shared 60 years of marriage prior to her passing on September 13, 2016.

Leland served his country in the U.S. Navy as a radar operator on the U.S.S. Randolph aircraft carrier. For 29 years Leland served the state of Pennsylvania as a Pennsylvania State Police Officer retiring on January 9, 1998. Leland was an avid golfer during his retirement.

Leland is survived by sons, John E. (Jennifer) Whipple, Stephen N. Whipple, both of Montoursville; sister, Marilyn Covey, of Orlando, FL; 6 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Leland was preceded in death by his wife, Bonita Whipple, daughter, Jody L. Smith, and son, Jack C. Whipple.

Services for Leland will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
