Thomas C. “Tommy” Cockrum
Thomas C. “Tommy” Cockrum, 24, of Muncy, Pennsylvania passed unexpectedly on Thursday, April 16, 2026, two days after his 24th birthday. Born April 14, 2002, in Williamsport, he was the son of Kimberly (Taylor) and Jason Sheasley of Muncy and the late Fred H. Cockrum, Jr. He was a 2020 graduate of Hughesville High School and Lycoming Career and Technical Center.
Tom found joy and purpose working with his hands. The little boy that loved playing in the dirt with his toy trucks grew up to become a heavy equipment operator with Robo Construction. His strong work ethic came from his “Pap” George Taylor. He was never one to stand around and watch, nor would he stop until the work was done.
Tommy had a heart of gold that was matched by his infectious smile. He loved spending time with his large circle of friends. There wasn’t a friend or stranger that he wouldn’t stop to help.
Tom played as hard as he worked. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, riding ATVs, cutting firewood, and many other outdoor activities. Tommy was a member of the Highland Lake Manor. It was through his membership at the “Club” that Tom became an avid gun collector (winner). He liked ending each day playing with the family dog Trigger.
Tommy was proud of his Dodge diesel pick-up. Despite being temperamental and often frustrating, it was his “pride and joy.” Tommy loved driving back country roads with his friends (as long as it wasn’t raining, snowing, or too muddy).
Recently, Tommy started building a life with his significant other Avery Whitmoyer. They were preparing a future together. He and Avery were making plans for a trip to Tennessee with his friend Josh later this year.
Surviving is his mother and stepfather, Kimberly and Jason Sheasley, of Muncy; an uncle, Dave (Stacy) Taylor, of Hughesville; maternal grandfather, George Taylor and companion Roxanne Miller, of Muncy; Step-Grandparents, Dave (Candace) Sheasley, of Hughesville; and numerous relatives.
Tommy was preceded in death by his father, Fred H. Cockrum, Jr., his maternal grandmother, Betty Taylor, and maternal great-grandparents Charles and Anna Young.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, April 24, 2026, at McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, 557 E. Water St. Hughesville. Viewing will be from 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday evening, April 23, 2026, at the funeral home. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
The family will provide the flowers and suggest you honor Tom’s memory by going for a walk in the woods, taking a kid fishing, helping a friend in need, or driving your truck on a back country road with the windows down.
Expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at mccartythomas.com.
