Faye M. (Shaffer) Carlisle-Thomas
Faye M. (Shaffer) Carlisle-Thomas, 90, known lovingly as Faye, passed away peacefully at her home in Cogan Station on Sunday, May 3, 2026.
Born on December 7, 1935, in Williamsport, she was a daughter of the late Harris M. Shaffer and Roseanna (Sweet) Shaffer. Faye was a proud graduate of Williamsport Area High School. Following her education there, she attended Lycoming College, before entering the U.S. Navy. She later continued her studies at Penn State University. For almost 26 years, Faye served as food service director for Laurel Health System, retiring on June 18, 2006. In addition to her career in health care food service, she also owned and operated Carlisle Catering.
Faith was an important part of Faye’s life. She was a member of Saint John’s-Newberry United Methodist Church, where she served as a Eucharist Minister. She also volunteered at the West End Christian Community Center. Faye was a member in several organizations, including The International Order of the Rainbow for Girls, where she was a charter member, the Auxiliary to Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, and the Ladies of the Grand Army of the Republic. She found joy in reading books and treasured the quiet pleasure of a good story.
She is survived by her daughter, Cynthia F. Fox; her brother, Donald K. Shaffer and his wife, Joyce Paulhamus; her sister, Kathryn J. White; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews. Along with her parents, Faye was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Thomas; three sons, Scott A. Carlisle, Michael L. Carlisle, and Mark W. Carlisle; her brothers, Charles R. Shaffer and George M. Shaffer.
Faye’s family extends their sincere appreciation to UPMC Hospice and Tammy George for the excellent care and support.
Funeral services to honor Faye’s life will be held 11 a.m., Monday, May 11, 2026, at Saint John’s-Newberry United Methodist Church, 2101 Newberry St., Williamsport. Burial will follow in Beech Valley Cemetery, Trout Run. A viewing will be held prior from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Faye’s name to the West End Christian Community Center, 901 Diamond St., Williamsport, PA 17701.
