James William “Bill” Shifflet

James William “Bill” Shifflet, 94, of Williamsport, passed away on Friday, May 15, 2026, at the Williamsport Home.

Born on February 1, 1932, in Montgomery, he was a son of the late Joseph Walter Shifflet and Annie Mae (Martin) Shifflet. Bill attended Hepburn Lycoming until his senior year and later graduated from Williamsport Area High School. His strong work ethic, steady leadership, and dependable nature showed throughout his entire life. He served his country honorably as a U.S. Navy veteran, a role that reflected his sense of duty and commitment. Following his military service, he worked for more than 40 years as a supervisor at Lonza, formerly Glyco Chemical. Bill also worked several other jobs in addition to Glyco, some of which were with Dincher and Dincher Tree Services, the Lycoming County Farm, and part time mail carrier.

Bill was an active member of Hepburn Baptist Church and also found joy in fishing, hunting, and spending time at his cabin at Seneca Lake. He had been a member of the Red Fox Hunting Club since 1968 and enjoyed visiting with his fellow hunting members and sharing stories from his many years at the cabin. Bill was also an avid golfer and enjoyed participating in the golf league while at work and into retirement. Bill also enjoyed working at Scott Young Auctions and taking part in the fellowship of the Ivy Lodge #106 as well as the Shriner’s. He also served as a fire police member at Hepburn Township Fire Company, continuing his lifelong pattern of service to others and to his community.

Bill was the beloved husband of Vera M. (Vollman) Shifflet, with whom he shared 74 years of marriage. They were married on January 21, 1952, and built a life together centered on love and family. He is survived by his wife, Vera; his two sons, Randy Shifflet (Christine), and Dan Shifflet (Jackie); four grandchildren, Jason Shifflet (Sarah), Brittany Kern (Matt), Benjamin James Shifflet (Julie), and Tessa Ann Shifflet (Nick DiFerdinando); three step-grandchildren, Robert Wheeland (Dara), Ashlen Dunkleberger (Matt), and Mitchell Wheeland (Tiffani); five great-grandchildren, Miles, Atlas, Jordan, Brayden, and Reid; and seven step-great-grandchildren, Landen, Colt, Brantly, Decklan, Bella, Carly, and Lilly.
