Marian B. Bender

Marian B. Bender, 99, of Hughesville, died May 24, 2026, at Wolf Run Village, Hughesville. She was the wife of J. Paul Bender, Jr. They were married on November 20, 1948, and celebrated 62 years of marriage together, until his passing on February 6, 2011.

Born December 31, 1926, in Montgomery, she was the daughter of the late Paul W. and B. Josephine (Scott) Harman. Marian was employed at Hamilton Watch Company, Lancaster, during her early married years from 1950-1953. She was employed at the former GTE Sylvania, Muncy, and retired from GTE Sylvania, Montoursville, in 1983 after more than 20 years there. In her spare time Marian enjoyed crocheting, quilting, sewing, swimming, and gardening. Marian was an arthritic swimming instructor at the Milton YMCA for many years. She was a member of St. John Lutheran “Brick” Church, Montgomery. Marian enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her four grandchildren.

Surviving are two daughters, Pamela (Rod) Clementoni, of Hughesville, and Lori (Jeffrey) Hill, of South Williamsport; grandchildren, Erin (Justin) Shelinski, Traci (Jaime) Friant, Eric Bender, and Jeffrey Hill, Jr.; and five great grandchildren, Hayden, Harper, and Hazel Friant, Jackson and Owen Shelinski.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Scott Walter, Glenn, and James Harman; two sisters, Ruth Huff, and Jean Mishler. She was also preceded in death by a special aunt that was more like a sister, (Big) Jean Sinner. (We always called her Big Jean because she was older than her sister Jean.)

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 1, 2026, at St. John Lutheran “Brick” Church, 196 Brick Church Road, Montgomery, PA, 17752, with her minister, James Girven, officiating. Viewing will be from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church prior to the funeral. Interment will be at the convenience of the family at Green Lawn Memorial Park, Montgomery.

The family will provide the flowers and suggest memorial contributions be made to St. John Lutheran “Brick” Church at the address above.
