Rev. Edward E. Prowant
Rev. Edward E. Prowant, 85, of Lewisburg, died on Monday, May 4, 2026, at Wellspan Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg.
Born March 29, 1941, in Williamsport, he was raised by Forrest and Helen (Brungard) Prowant and lived the first 25 years of his life on a small farm on the White Deer Pike. On January 21, 1967, he married Eileen McCleary, who recently predeceased him after 59 years of marriage.
Edward attended #10 Yocum One Room School in White Deer and later was a 1959 graduate of Milton High School. He graduated from both Bloomsburg University in 1963 with a BS in education and Wesley Theological Seminary in 1971 with a Master of Divinity degree.
Edward has been a farmer, teacher and pastor in the EUB/United Methodist Church since 1965. In his career as a pastor, he has served full time churches in York, Baltimore, MD, Williamsport, Nescopeck, Altoona, Sunbury, State College and Dillsburg. Edward has also served part time churches near Salladasburg, Williamsport, Jersey Shore and Penns Creek.
He served as assistant elder to the district superintendent of the Williamsport district of the United Methodist Church for over 12 years.
In his free time, Edward enjoyed reading, gardening, caning chairs, weaving, quilting and hunting.
Surviving is one son and daughter-in-law, Douglas and Janice Prowant, of Shippensburg; and two grandsons, Calvin and Dexter Prowant.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, May 11 at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1407 Allegheny St. Jersey Shore, with Pastor Martin Parr, officiating.
Burial will be held privately in Highland Cemetery, New Columbia.
The family will provide the flowers and suggest contributions in Edward’s memory be made to either Trinity United Methodist Church, Jersey Shore, or St. Paul’s @ The Farm, Lewisburg.
