Florence J. Shaffer
Florence J. Shaffer, 96, of Montoursville, passed away Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at Valley View Nursing Center.
Born August 17, 1929, in Williamsport, she was a daughter of the late Ransom and Ella Mae (Riale) Collister.
Florence was a loving mother, grandmother, and sister, who cherished spending time with all her family. She made many memories with her husband, Merritt, traveling throughout 49 of the 50 states. She loved their trip to Alaska to visit the scenery and wildlife. At home she played cards, helped build their dream home, and practiced their faith. Florence would spend a lot of her time traveling to visit many folks who were not able to get out. She was a member of the New Covenant United Church of Christ in Williamsport and volunteered with the local girl scouts.
She is survived by three children, Jeanette (Donald) Imbrogno, of Kane, Stephanie (Greg) Harris, of Muncy, David (Barbara) Shaffer, of Montoursville; nine grandchildren, Jeremy (Lynnette) Harris, Kevin (Genevieve) Imbrogno, Melanie Brownsberger, Kenneth (Teresa) Shaffer, Lori (Matt) LaPatka, Timothy (Theresa Kohler) Shaffer, Andrea (Mike) Putt, Mark Imbrogno, Zachary (Ericka) Shaffer; 18 great-grandchild; three great-great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Patricia Shaffer, of Montgomery.
In addition to her parents, Florence was preceded in death by her loving husband of 74 years, Merritt Shaffer; a great-grandchild, Layne Shaffer; two brothers, Howard and John Collister; and a sister, Marguerite Zellers.
Funeral Service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 20, 2026, at McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, 733 Broad Street Montoursville, with Rev. Brad Walmer officiating. Burial will follow at Wildwood Cemetery. Friends may call from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
