Betty Lou (Hollenback) Wright, 98, formerly of Hughesville, PA, died peacefully surrounded by loved ones on 07/23/2026 at Valley View Rehab & Nursing Center, Montoursville. She was the wife of Robert Hyman Clayton who passed away in 1992, and later married Richard Judd Wright who passed away in 2003.
Betty was born December 31, 1927, in Duryea, and was the daughter of the late Archie and Pheobe (Brown) Hollenback. She moved to Williamsport in 1945. Betty worked as an industrial sewing machine operator at several garment/textile manufacturing facilities locally, as well as in the Scranton area. After working for 60 years in those industries, she became a skilled multi-needle operator using complex machines. When Betty finally retired at age 77, she was recruited to return to train the newcomers on the use and repair of the machines. She enjoyed bowling, shopping, music, traveling with friends & family, and desserts. Betty had many friends and enjoyed life even when she experienced difficult times. Her motto was, "Just keep moving," as she didn't dwell on any misfortunes but instead looked to the future. She was a great role model for her family. Betty was a proud member of the First United Methodist Church in Muncy since 1977.
Surviving is a son, Ronald (Rita) Clayton, of Montoursville, 8 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and spouses, she was predeceased by two sons, Robert S. and William T.; a great-grandson, Joshua Steven; two brothers, Clayton Hollenback and Archie Hollenback; and two sisters, Geraldine Smith and Mary Hollenback.
Her family would like to thank the loving staff at Valley View, where she would comment, "I can't think of a nicer place to be." She especially enjoyed their outside courtyard.
A celebration of Betty's life will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 31, 2026, at the First United Methodist Church, 602 S. Market St., Muncy, PA, 17756, with her pastor, Rev. Richard N. Robinson, Jr., officiating. Interment will be in Wildwood Cemetery at a later date. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. on Friday, one hour before the memorial service at the church.
