Frances E. Bigger

Frances E. Bigger, 102, of Unityville, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 29, 2026 at UPMC – Muncy Place.

Born April 2, 1924 in Jordan Twp., Lycoming Co., she was a daughter of the late Cecil Roy and Bertha Mae (Rider) Gardner. On May 1, 1948, she was married to Robert Warren Bigger and they celebrated 43 years of marriage until his passing on January 1, 1992.

Frances was a 1944 graduate of Hughesville High School, and during her working years was a Postmaster in Lairdsville. She was a member of St. John’s “Gordners” Lutheran Church in Unityville.

She enjoyed being outdoors especially in her garden with her many beautiful flowers and mowing her lawn. In her earlier years she enjoyed playing the guitar. Frances also enjoyed fishing trips to Canada, going to casinos, and loved going to all of her family’s sporting events.

She is survived by her son, Michael Bigger and his wife Susie, of Unityville; four daughters, Linda Puderbach and her husband Robert, of Unityville, Susan Smith and her husband Dan, of Unityville, Jill Cooper and her husband Kelly, of Picture Rocks, and Sally Brown and her husband Carson, of McElhattan; 10 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, C. Dale Gardner, and sister, L. June Houseknecht.

Family and friends are invited to a visitation on Monday, July 6, 2026 from Noon to 1 p.m. at Hughesville Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc, 5069 Route 220 Hwy, Hughesville, where a funeral service will begin at 1 p.m. Burial will follow in Gordner’s Cemetery in Unityville.

Her family would like to thank all of her caregivers for their compassionate and loving care, and they suggest that in lieu of flowers, you do some act of kindness to others.
