John S. Masten, 81, passed away peacefully on May 17, 2026, in Charlotte, North Carolina. Born on July 28, 1944, in Geneva, New York, he was the son of the late Thomas and Mary Masten. A talented three sport athlete and Eagle Scout, John grew up in Seneca Falls, New York where he graduated from Mynderse Academy, earned his undergraduate degree at St. John Fisher University, his JD from Syracuse University Law School, and an MBA from Bucknell University.

John spent over 50 years in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, where he raised his family with his wife, Dianne. He retired from Textron Lycoming after a distinguished 35-year career in aviation law. He was passionate about art collecting and Seneca Lake.

He is survived by his wife, Dianne; children, Shannon Silsby (Jonathan), Kerry Stephens (Michael), John Paul Masten, Elizabeth Masten (Gareth Hutchinson), and Mollie Patton; ten grandchildren; and his brother, Thomas Masten. He was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Susan Masten Guilfoyle.

A celebration of life will be held later this year. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Seneca Lake Pure Waters Association or the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU).
