Mary Lou Nelson

Mary Lou Nelson, 82, of Montoursville, passed away Friday, July 3, 2026, at Valley View Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Montoursville. Born July 25, 1943, in Hughesville, PA, she was a daughter of the late Lillian Vandine Manning and Walter Vandine.

Mary Lou graduated from Hughesville High School in 1961. She continued her education at the Williamsport School of Commerce before going to work for MetLife of Williamsport in 1963. She was hired as an office clerk and during her 39 years tenure, she advanced to Branch Administrator. After retirement in 2002, she spent the next 10 years working part-time in Customer Service at the Bon Ton at the Lycoming Mall.

Her second retirement was spent doing what she enjoyed- playing golf, traveling, reading, and playing cards. In addition to the organizations associated with her hobbies, she was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Hughesville.

She is survived by her four sisters, Dora Vandine, of Montoursville, Naomi Wertman of PA and FL, Linda (John) Schon of Loyalsock, and Joanne (Cliff) Schumacher, of Travelers Rest, SC. She is also survived by nieces, Valerie, Marlene, Michele, and Christie; nephews, Doug, Sam, and Jeff, along with many great nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brother, Donald Vandine, and stepfather, James Manning.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff on the 300 hall of Valley View and the hospice team for the care and kindness shown to Mary Lou and her family.

A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 10, 2026, at the Muncy Cemetery, 204 E. Penn Street, Muncy, PA, with the Rev. Donald Montgomery, officiating.
