Mary Margaret (Askey) Schreiber

Mary Margaret (Askey) Schreiber, 83, of Fort Myers, FL passed away peacefully on Friday, June 26, 2026 at American House The Palms, where she had resided for the past year.

Born October 12, 1942 in Williamsport, PA, she was a daughter of the late Edward and Violet (Dibble) Askey. After graduating from South Williamsport High School in 1960, Mary worked at the Valley Sweet in DuBoistown, PA, serving homemade ice cream. She soon married her loving husband, Sonny, of nearly 50 years. Together they owned and operated the Valley Sweet, before relocating to Florida with their family in 1972. Mary served as a school food service manager with Collier County Public Schools for more than 28 years. Sonny preceded her in death on May 19, 2010.

To all who knew her, Mary was a devoted wife, mother, nana, aunt, sister, and friend – also lovingly known as Marg, Pudge, and Nan. She loved the Lord with all her heart and shared His compassion through quiet acts of service, especially in the kitchen; no one ever left her home unfed. She treasured her summer returns to Pennsylvania, spending time with her northern friends and family. Her sense of humor, gentle care, and generous hospitality will be deeply missed.

Mary carried herself with strength and dignity through many health challenges. We rejoice that she is now in the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and take comfort in knowing she is free in every way.

She is survived by her children, Terry G. (Linda) of Muncy, PA; Randy A. of North Fort Myers, FL; and Laurie R. Quigley (Michael) of Fort Myers, FL; her sister, Lucille A. Lowe of Williamsport, PA; twelve grandchildren; and twenty-four great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Donna E. Barclay and Jane M. Weisel.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hope Hospice, 9470 HealthPark Circle, Fort Myers, FL 33908, whose loving care and support provided a comfort beyond measure.

A celebration of Mary’s life will be held on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at 11:30 am, at American House The Palms, 2674 Winkler Avenue, Fort Myers, FL 33901.
