William C. “Bill” Hassenplug, 80, of Milton, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 28, 2026, at WellSpan Evangelical Community Hospital in Lewisburg, surrounded by his family and close friends.
Born in Milton on March 6, 1946, he was the son of the late Dr. E. Colvin Hassenplug and Carlene (Smith) Hassenplug Yoder.
Bill attended, graduated from Milton High School with the Class of 1964, The Phelps School and earned his degree from Salem College in West Virginia in 1969. He was a proud member of the Scottish Rite, the Williamsport Corvette Club, and the Williamsport Country Club. A lifelong automobile enthusiast, Bill especially loved Corvettes and Nascar. He was also an enthusiastic supporter of Loyalsock School District athletics.
Bill was truly one of a kind. Known to many of his Milton friends by the nickname “Toad.” He lived life on his own terms and was never afraid to let his spirited personality shine. A master of practical jokes, Bill delighted in making people laugh. His pranks ranged from harmless surprises to jokes that occasionally wandered into off-color territory, but they were always delivered with the mischievous grin that let everyone know he was having fun. Whether he was working in his beloved yard, spending time with friends, or preparing for the holidays, there was always a chance a well-timed joke would make an appearance.
Christmas was one of Bill’s favorite times of the year. He took great pride in decorating his home, making sure every light and decoration was just right. His festive displays became something family, friends, and neighbors looked forward to each season, reflecting the joy he found in creating special memories for others.
More than anything, Bill treasured the people in his life. Beneath his playful exterior was a father, a Poppy, and a loyal friend whose generosity, humor, and unforgettable personality left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
Throughout his career, Bill worked as a salesman and manager for several area automobile dealerships, including Blaise Alexander, McIntyre and Shirn’s where he built many lasting relationships over the years.
Bill is survived by his daughter, Lynsie Pfleegor (David) of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida; his son, William C. Hassenplug II (Julie) of Fallston, Maryland; four beloved grandchildren, Colton Pfleegor, Preston Pfleegor, Cole Hassenplug, and Claire Hassenplug, and his faithful dog, Josie.
Friends and relatives will be received on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Williamsport Country Club 800 Country Club Dr. Williamsport. His Celebration of Life will begin at 6 p.m.
