Richard V. Cott, 81, passed away peacefully on July 31, 2026, at his home in Montoursville.
He was the son of Olga Cott Davis and Valentine Cott who are deceased.
He graduated from Loyalsock Joint School in 1963 and went to WTI for 2 years. He was a crane operator at Pullman Power Products and a proud union member of the Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 810. He also wok at Valley Farms.
He played in the Vernom Norton Band at the Forksville Inn, called Square Dances, and could really sing!
In 1972 he married Mary Shafer and together they shared 53 years.
My Rick was a great dancer, especially slow dancing. He had a smile that would light up your day and that along with his boyish charm would melt your heart. He was always ready to help anyone in need, family, friends, or strangers. He had a huge heart. His love of country music was passed on to our children and myself. He loved our daily trips to DD for coffee.
He had a "hearty" handshake, as anyone who was fortunate enough to shake hands with him would tell you. He enjoyed mowing with his John Deere tractor which served as a great place for his grandchildren to get a ride on grandpa's lap. He was a Steelers fan, enjoyed watching Nascar, and going to any car show, especially Corvettes at Carlisle. He loved going to his children and grandchildren's activities, sports, plays, marching band, and musical concerts. He was a very proud father, grandfather, and loving husband.
They who go feel not the pain of parting. They who remain do. "Rick, Goodnight, I Love you!"
Surviving are a daughter, Nicole (Corey) Persun of South Williamsport and their children, Brodey, Kiley, and Kloey Persun; a son, Jason (Dawn) Cott of Montoursville and their sons, Braden, Kolten, and Gavin Cott. Also surviving is his sister, Judy L. Epler; special nieces, Suzette ( Joe) O'Neil, Annette (Marc) Koder, and Babette (Travis) Wagner; and special nephews, Nate and Richie Hafer.
He was predeceased by his wife's sister Rose Marie Hafer and her husband Richard Hafer.
In keeping with Rick's wishes there will be no services.
Arrangements have been entrusted to McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, Montoursville.
