Wanda Mae Howey

Wanda Mae Howey, age 98, of Williamsport, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 16, 2026, at UPMC Williamsport.

Born on December 24, 1927 and raised in Williamsport, she was the cherished daughter of the late Charles and Catherine (Waltz) Metzger.

Wanda spent a portion of her career in Philadelphia, where she worked as a waitress at Stauffer's. In 1987, she returned to her beloved hometown of Williamsport, where she continued her passion for service and waitressing at Heller's Restaurant on Lycoming Creek Road for many wonderful years.

Wanda was a dedicated and active member of Heshbon United Methodist Church, where she frequently volunteered her time helping with church luncheons.

A true people person, Wanda thrived when surrounding herself with others. She was the ultimate social coordinator for her circle of friends, famously organizing dinners and trips to the movies. Known affectionately as the "Limo Driver" for her friends, she selflessly drove them to doctor appointments and various social events. Her deepest joy came from helping others and simply being there for her family and friends.

She is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will miss her deeply.

In addition to her parents, Wanda was preceded in death by her brother, George Metzger, and sisters, Grace Bower, Alice Liddick, and Vaughn Fisher.

A funeral service to honor the vibrant life of Wanda will be held at 10 AM on Friday, August 21st at Knight-Confer Funeral Home, 1914 Memorial Avenue, Williamsport, where a visitation will take place from 9 AM until the time of the service.

Burial will follow at State Road Church Cemetery, Cogan Station.

Following the graveside service, family and friends are invited to continue celebrating Wanda's life at Heller's Restaurant, 1941 Lycoming Creek Rd, Williamsport.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Wanda's name can be made to Heshbon United Methodist Church, 2898 Heshbon Road, Williamsport, PA 17701.
