Anne Furey Simpson passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at the age of 87, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on November 19, 1938, in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, Anne was the firstborn and only daughter of three children. She attended Rosemont College for two years before marrying the love of her life, Fred Simpson. Their lifelong adventure began early, when Anne joined her young Marine husband on a six-month Mediterranean deployment, bringing their infant daughter, Betsey, along for the journey. It was the beginning of a remarkable partnership that would span more than six decades.
Anne was an active volunteer with the Junior League and served for 12 years as the consumer appointee to the Pennsylvania State Board of Nurse Examiners. Later, she earned her real estate license and enjoyed a successful career as a real estate agent, building lasting relationships with the people she served.
Perhaps nothing brought Anne greater joy than traveling the world with Fred by her side. Their adventures took them to far-flung corners of the globe, with many journeys ending in Paris each fall, where they celebrated Anne's birthday and their wedding anniversary. Spring arrived early for Anne and Fred on their beloved islands of Puerto Rico and St. Barts. Puerto Rico held a particularly special place in Anne's heart, made even more meaningful by the love and warmth of our extended Rullan family.
Yet for all the places she traveled and experiences she treasured, Anne would tell you that her greatest accomplishment was her lifelong love affair with Fred. Together, they built a beautiful home in Berwyn, where they raised their family and celebrated their 50th and 60th wedding anniversaries. Their marriage was the foundation of a life filled with family, friendship, laughter, adventure, and love.
Anne is survived by her four children, Betsey Hilberts (Tom), Fred D. Simpson III (Valerie), Ted Simpson (Wendy), and Stacey Simpson; her cherished bonus daughter, Anne Trickett Marcelli; and her son, Matthew.
She leaves behind nine treasured grandchildren, Eliza Hilberts (Matt), Greta Hilberts, Allie Hilberts, Emma Simpson, Connor Simpson, Jackson Simpson, Haley Simpson, Tucker Simpson, and Megan Simpson; and her first great-granddaughter, Maggie, daughter of Eliza and Matt.
Anne is also survived by her brother, Jim Furey (Cindy). She was preceded in death by her brother, Durant Furey (Mary).
The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to the Martin family--Emily, Kyle, and their wonderful children, Bailey, Walker, Hudson, and Duke--for their friendship, kindness, and unwavering support throughout the years. Their love and presence meant so much to Anne and her family.
A memorial service celebrating Anne & Fred's lives will be held at St. Monica's on Friday, October 23, 2026, at 10:30 a.m.
