Dolores S. Fortner

Dolores S. Fortner, 93, of Mechanicsburg, formerly of Dover Delaware, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at Bethany Village in Mechanicsburg.

Born June 8, 1933, in Williamsport, she was a daughter of the late Anthony J. and Anna (Martone) Stanzione.

Dolores dedicated more than 40 years of her life to caring for others as a registered nurse in Dover, Delaware. Much of her career was spent as a surgical nurse, and she specialized in non-invasive arterial and venous studies. In addition, Dolores occasionally served as a nurse at Dover Downs' events.

In 1955, Dolores married the love of her life, George F. Fortner. More than husband and wife, Dolores and George were truly best friends. They enjoyed spending their time together and were rarely apart. Their marriage was filled with companionship and devotion until George's passing on February 15, 2013.

While living in Dover, Dolores was a longtime member of Maple Dale Country Club and Holy Cross Catholic Church. An avid golfer, she spent many enjoyable days on the course and also enjoyed playing tennis and bridge.

Dolores was wonderfully creative and always seemed to have something keeping her hands or imagination busy. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and sewing and was a talented artist who painted with both watercolors and acrylics. She also found great pleasure in tending to her flower gardens.

She is survived by her sister, Frances Nardi of Williamsport; ten nephews; eight nieces; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.

In addition to her parents and beloved husband, George, she was preceded in death by her siblings, John Stanzione, Catherine Reidy and Louis Stanzione.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Dolores' name to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD 21741.

A memorial service to honor Dolores' life will be held 10:30 a.m., Saturday, September 19, at Sanders Mortuary, 821 Diamond Street, Williamsport. Inurnment will follow in Wildwood Cemetery, Williamsport.
