James Allen "Jim" Sones, 88, of Muncy, passed away on September 21, 2026 at home surrounded by his loved ones. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, farmer, hunter, and business owner, Jim will be remembered for his steadfast love of family, his strong work ethic, and the life he built on the family farm.
For Jim, farming was far more than an occupation, it was a way of life. He found purpose in working the land and took great pride in the family farm, where many of his happiest moments were spent alongside the people he loved. An avid hunter, Jim also treasured time outdoors and the traditions, stories, and companionship that came with it. Whether tending to the farm, heading into the woods, or gathering with family at home, Jim valued honest work, simple pleasures, and time shared with those closest to him.
Jim and his beloved wife, Earline Mae (Keiser) Sones, celebrated 67 years of marriage. Together they raised three children, Loretta Sones (Barry Laurenson), John Sones (Kelly Snyder), and Barry Sones, all of Muncy. Among Jim's proudest joys were his six grandchildren, Katrina (Ryan) Emick of Montoursville, Michael (Kelle) Sones of Muncy, Kari (Jordan) Ulrich of Muncy, Alycia (Josh) Downey of Muncy, Tyler Sones (Samantha Wildman) of Buffalo, New York, and Cody (Miranda) Sones of Muncy. He also delighted in his great-grandchildren, Makela, Maddison, Bentley, Harper, Taylor, Kennedy, Kaylyn, Asher, Ayla, and the family's newest addition, Ivy.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, W. Paul and Erma C. (Ritter) Sones; his brother, Raymond P. Sones; and brother-in-law, Billie Bransteitter. He is survived by his sister, Marylin Bransteitter, as well as his cherished wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family, and friends.
Jim's legacy lives on in the family he loved and, in the values, he passed down: dedication, perseverance, responsibility, and pride in a job well done. The family farm will remain a place filled with memories of his presence--of days spent working together, hunting, sharing stories, and enjoying the land that meant so much to him. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
Arrangements have been entrusted to McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, Hughesville.
A celebration of life service will be held by his family in Spring 2027.
