Karen L. Patterson, 75, of Loyalsock, passed away on Sunday, August 30, 2026 at Heritage Springs Montoursville where she was cared for by a dedicated and caring staff for the last 2 ¢ years. She spent her last day with loved ones, and Cooper her "Grand Pup", as she referred to him.
Born on July 14, 1951 in Williamsport, she was the daughter of the late Robert O. and Jacquelyn L. (Guinter) Heller. She did not have a sister so she cherished the bonds she had with her cousins, friends from college, and work friends.
Karen was a 1969 graduate of Loyalsock High School. She attended Mansfield University, before receiving her Associate's Degree in Library Science from Williamsport Area Community College.
She worked as a Librarian for Kunkle Library in Montoursville and James V. Brown Library in Williamsport before retiring from the Pennsylvania College of Technology as an Acquisitions Specialist. But as she'd tell anyone, her favorite role in life was being a mom.
Later in life, Karen reconnected with Ken, a boyfriend from her younger years. They enjoyed end-less conversations, attending and participating in events at Duboistown Church, taking walks, watching football, and an occasional out of town adventure.
Fall was Karen's favorite season. She looked forward to the colorful leaves, cooler temperatures, football, mums, Thanksgiving, and, of course, all things Pumpkin Spice. This would have been the first fall in which her physical body prevented her from fully enjoying the season she loved so dearly.
She loved to read. Every year she would receive Christmas books as gifts and each year she re-read the ever-growing collection. Christmas was also her favorite holiday and she would often keep her decorations up into February.
Karen enjoyed her vacations in Wildwood, NJ. She loved light houses, being on the board walk, and visits to nearby Cape May.
Karen is survived by her son, Brian Knapp (Bridgette Pierce) of Pittsburgh; longtime companion, Ken Ball of Duboistown, as well as many cousins.
A service to honor Karen's life will be held at 12 noon on Friday, September 4th at Knight-Confer Funeral Home, 1914 Memorial Ave., Williamsport, where a visitation will take place from 11 AM until the time of the service at noon.
Interment to follow in Montoursville Cemetery.
To carry on the legacy of Karen's love for dogs, the family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made in to the Lycoming County SPCA, 2805 Reach Road, Williamsport, PA 17701. Or to the Alzheimer's Association, P.O. Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090.
