Mary Zeitler, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, friend, and respected Williamsport community leader, passed away on September 3, 2026, at the age of 73.
Born in Williamsport, Mary was a proud 1970 graduate of the Stoneleigh-Burnham School in Greenfield, MA, and went on to attend Vassar College and the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York City. While in New York, she worked with Chargit to pioneer a phone ticket ordering system for Broadway shows. During this time, she met the love of her life, Gregory Zeitler. The couple shared 52 beautiful years of marriage and lived in Williamsport with their three sons.
For more than two decades, Mary was a familiar and trusted face across the region as a dedicated realtor with both Peggy L'Heureux Real Estate and Fish Real Estate. To Mary, real estate was not just about the more than 1,000 transactions she successfully closed, it was about helping her neighbors find a place to call home. She was especially passionate about guiding first-time homebuyers through their new journeys with confidence. Recognized as a consistent top producer, Mary earned the lasting admiration of buyers, sellers, and colleagues alike for her unwavering honesty, straightforward manner, and deeply rooted commitment to always putting people first.
Her commitment to service reached far beyond her professional life. Possessing an extensive knowledge of the region and deep ties to the community, Mary was a graduate of the inaugural class of Leadership Lycoming. She served on the board of the YMCA, was influential in establishing the Children's Discovery Workshop, served on the Williamsport zoning hearing board, and served as an officer of the local association of realtors. Her faith and compassion extended to regularly volunteering at St. Joseph the Worker Parish (formerly Annunciation) as a eucharistic minister and lector, tutoring adults in reading, and serving in the chaplain's department at the Williamsport Hospital.
Aside from public service, Mary's greatest joy was her lively family and the bustling, open-door home she and Gregg created. A natural and generous hostess, Mary loved entertaining and cooking for a crowd--whether preparing food in the kitchen at The Peter Herdic House or welcoming a houseful of family and friends. Her sons' friends were always a fixture at the house, some staying for long periods as part of the family. Mary treasured traveling with her family and close friends, shared her life with many cherished Boxer dogs, and enjoyed relaxing by the pool surrounded by those she loved. She will be long remembered for her steadfast devotion to her family, her amazing cooking, her cheerful wave to everyone passing by, and the remarkable way she made people feel welcomed, valued, and at home.
Mary is survived by her husband, Gregory; her three sons, Michael (Rebekka) of Germantown, MD, Charles (Katie) of Denver, CO, and Peter (Stephanie) of Greeley, CO; her sister, Ellen McGuire; and her nieces, Laura Gilbert and Elizabeth McGuire. She was the proud grandmother of Reyna, Zoe, Phoebe, Melany, Olive, Lennon, Sophie, Arlo, and Zappa. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Mary Elizabeth Stockwell of Williamsport, PA, and her sister, Katherine Gilbert.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, September 11th at St. Joseph the Worker Parish, 702 W. 4th Street, Williamsport. Burial will follow immediately at Wildwood Cemetery.
