Ocie Joan (Shick) Hoffman, 93, formerly of Montoursville, passed peacefully on August 27, 2026 in Mechanicsburg where she resided the last 3 years. Ocie was born on August 17, 1933, in Williamsport to the late Lee and Mildred (Wolfe) Shick.
Ocie was a South Side girl, growing up on Southmont Avenue with her four siblings just blocks away from the Little League World Series. Possessed with an industrious spirit, Ocie started working at the young age of fourteen for Felix Dry Cleaners. After graduating from South Williamsport High School in 1951, Ocie got a much-coveted job at Bell of Pennsylvania as a telephone operator. She retired from telecommunications after 39 years of service from AT&T.
A classy and stylish lady, Ocie was always dressed "to the nines". She was extremely creative and her talents shined brightest as a gardener. Ocie and Bill's backyard was a thing of beauty and was a lovely backdrop for countless family events. She worked tirelessly on each flower bed and planting, often giving personal tours and education on the details of each plant. A longtime member of the Montoursville Garden Club, Ocie loved creating arrangements from her own homegrown gardens and entering them in the annual Garden Show.
Ocie was a member of Montoursville Presbyterian Church where she served as a deacon for a time and in her younger years, she was a Sunday School teacher at Faith United Methodist Church. She loved to play golf and was part of the Women's League at White Deer Golf Course for many years. Her competitive spirit carried over to cards, scrabble, and bingo. Ocie was a founding member of a 50-plus year Card Club where she fostered lifelong friendships. She also enjoyed playing cards as a member of the Williamsport Women's Club. In her younger years, Ocie took up skiing with her family and took yearly ski trips to Vermont. She was an amazing cook- her recipes of chicken pot pie, baked corn, and cheesecake were family favorites.
Ocie was married for 65 years to her loving husband, William Hoffman, who passed away June 29, 2022. Together they created a beautiful family and legacy. In addition to her husband and parents, Ocie was predeceased by her brother, Chet Shick and sister, Sandra Crossley. She adored them all and missed them deeply.
Ocie is survived by two daughters, Kimberly DiRocco (Mark) of Mechanicsburg and Christy Vogel (Matt) of Harrisburg; six grandchildren, Amber Shatto (Pete), Danae DiRocco (Donald), Anne Marie DiRocco (Arjun), Natalie DiRocco (Connor), Brady Vogel, and Izzy Vogel; and eight great-grandchildren, Felicity, Markus, Damien, Mehram, Naomi, Felix, Leo, and Armaan; her brother, Richard Shick of Wellsboro, her loving sister, Shirley Snapp of Fenwick Island, Delaware, and her amazing cousin, Jeanne (Bill) Yaggi.
Ocie was a beloved Aunt and endeared herself to her many nieces and nephews. She formed strong bonds with her caregivers who became like family; Pam, Jody, Barb, and Michelle.
A celebration of life will be held at Sophia's at Walden in Mechanicsburg, PA on Saturday, September 5 at 1 p.m.
