Ann Marie (Wetzel) Johnston, lovingly known as Nancy, passed away on October 16, 2026, at UPMC of Williamsport. She was born on June 26, 1941, in Shamokin, and was the only daughter of the late Roger Wetzel and Anna Theresa (Higgins) Wetzel.
Nancy graduated from St. Joseph High School, class of 1959, where she was honored as prom queen during her senior year. Nancy had a serving and giving heart that she displayed in all aspects of life including her work. For several years she worked in the cafeterias of Franklin and Lycoming Valley schools, and later served as assistant manager for J.C. Penney, where she worked for 20 years before retiring.
She was known for her sweet spirit, her encouraging nature, and her kind heart, all of which left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her. Nancy also loved to laugh, cheer on her favorite team, Penn State, and once held the champ title of the Jitter Bug champ at the YMCA. She was a faithful member of the Christian Church of Cogan Station and found joy in participating in Bible Study Group. Above all, she loved spending time with her family, especially her children and grandchildren, who were the joy of her life.
On October 28, 2026, Nancy and her husband, David D. Johnston, would have celebrated 65 years of marriage. Their long life together was built on love, commitment, and shared devotion to their children and grandchildren. She is survived by her husband, David; her children, Julie McManus, Jayme D. Johnston and his wife Cindy, and Rodney A. "Buck" Johnston; and her daughter-in-law, Jill Johnston. She also leaves behind five grandchildren who affectionately called her Nana, Mitchell McManus, Jeanine Johnston, Jacob Johnston and his wife Alexis, Stone Riddle, and Christian Riddle, as well as three great-grandchildren who knew her as Great-Nana, Ella Johnston, Oakley Johnston, and Caroline Riddle. Nancy is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews who will cherish her memory.
Along with her parents, she was also preceded in death by her beloved son, Ronald E. Johnston; her daughter-in-law, Janet Johnston; and her two brothers, William and James Wetzel.
A memorial service to honor Nancy's life will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, October 24, 2026, at the Christian Church at Cogan Station, 5904 Lycoming Creek Rd., Cogan Station, PA 17728. A visitation will be held prior from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church.
