Gerald L. "Jerry" Counsil, Jr., 87, of Williamsport, peacefully entered heaven on Sunday, October 4, 2026, from his earthly home, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on January 20, 1939, in Williamsport, and he was a son of the late Gerald L. Counsil, Sr., and Elizabeth Margaret (Mitchell) Counsil. A graduate of South Williamsport High School, Jerry carried with him the values of faith, hard work, and perseverance throughout his life. He answered the call to serve his country as a Korean War veteran, serving with the 1st Cavalry in the United States Army. During that time, he also served as an electrician on the Korean DMZ. After his military service, Jerry worked for Jersey Shore Steel for many years until his retirement.
Faith was an important part of who Jerry was. He was deeply involved in the life of his church and community. He was a long-time member of The Christian and Missionary Alliance denomination, and faithfully served as an elder, deacon and/or member at West End Alliance, Faith Alliance, and Greenview Alliance churches in Williamsport. Jerry was also a member of VFW Post 7863 in Duboistown and the Korean War Veterans of Lycoming County, where he shared fellowship with fellow veterans and honored the bonds formed through shared service. In his spare-time, he was a collector of oddities and had a lifelong love of cars, interests that brought him joy and gave him many stories to share.
Jerry was the beloved husband of Patty (Davis) Counsil and father of Michael Allen Counsil and his wife, Carol. He was a cherished Pap to Heather D. Counsil, Jordan M. Counsil, Stella C. Counsil, and Leo S. Counsil, and great-grandfather to Emerson. He is also survived by his siblings, Robert "Bob" Counsil and Jacquelynn Keaner, as well as his half-siblings, Joe Counsil, Eugene Counsil, Heidi Bates, and Rosalee Meade, as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family members. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, David "Dave" Counsil, Richard "Bud" Counsil, and Shirley Persun.
Above all, Jerry will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, Pap, brother, and friend whose life reflected faith, strength and love. In his final days, he longed to be with Jesus and go to his forever home, prepared just for him.
