We're not quite sure who to thank here, but whoever you are, you need to know how much we appreciate your gift.
We're sure you already know the value to the community that will come from your $250,000 donation toward the Bookmobile campaign at the James V. Brown Library.
Said to be the library's most important project right now, the anonymous donor, in one swipe of the pen, was able to nearly complete the campaign's $500,000 goal following a difficult year.
"We weren't able to raise the money that we wanted to in 2020, so this is just amazing," said Barbara S. McGary, library executive director.
We can see why it's considered the library's most important project.
The campaign was launched in 2019 to replace the aging Bookmobile with three vehicles targeted for more specific audiences: a Storymobile, a second vehicle to serve senior care facilities, and a third to serve rural populations and the area's workforce.
The bonus of the smaller vehicles is that they will be easier to navigate along their routes. And having three vehicles instead of one will allow them to serve many more people while promoting literacy and opportunity for all.
Now the library is much closer to realizing its goal. After having to push back this year's target date to get the new vehicles on the road, hopes are high that it may happen next year. The library needs another $25,000 to make it happen.
It's a worthy cause that will serve many people -- young, old and all ages in between.
