"Communities don't just happen."
That bit of wisdom comes from a Wellsboro woman who ventured out into the wild on a solo adventure as one of 10 participants on the History Channel's survival series, "Alone," which airs on Thursday nights.
Though Rose Anna Moore is not free to disclose how she did with the experience, we are excited to watch her adventure.
We're impressed with her approach to nature as a conservationist and the mental and physical fortitude it takes to survive off of the land, totally alone, for an untold number of days, weeks or months.
There's not even a cameraman as all filming is handled by participants, making it a true solo challenge.
Was it the mental challenge that bore Moore's bit of wisdom about "communities?" Did the inspiration come from her time spent living in isolation, far from Tioga County?
Long before she made her way to a reality television show, Moore had moved away from our region for a considerable time, it turns out. She later returned to live, in her words, in "the only place I've ever thought of as my home."
"The older you are when you walk back into it, the more you value your community," she told the Sun-Gazette.
Now she hopes her adventure will have a positive impact for Wellsboro, her hometown.
"It's very important to me to involve my community in this whole adventure that I'm on because communities don't just happen."
Such profound insight also doesn't just happen. Thank you, Rose Anna Moore, for sharing your story.
