With Lycoming Career and Technology Center's Class of 2022 crossing the stage, receiving their diplomas and, in the words graduate Kenneth Draper, moving on "to the next stage of our lives," an indelible season for our region arrives yet again -- high school graduations.
Between June 2 and June 11, the nine high schools of Lycoming County will celebrate the achievements of the classes of 2022. There will be many speeches, many words of advice and afterwards, much laughter and celebration.
As the Williamsport Sun-Gazette noted in its Saturday-Sunday edition, Mike Reed, who soon will begin service as Pennsylvania College of Technology's president, told the graduates of Lyco CTC that they will face character-building moments as they embark on their professional and other endeavors.
"How you respond to those catalysts -- good or bad -- says a lot about who we are and who we will become," Reed told the commencement ceremony.
It is a thought-provoking line. We are sure there will be many other words that incite reflection and encourage growth and development in the coming few weeks. The themes which commencement speakers traditionally touch upon -- the importance of hard work, humility, perseverance, commitment to name just a few -- are inspiring.
And as much as the post-ceremony festivities have been earned and should be enjoyed, we hope the classes of 2022 can draw some inspiration from the words spoken during the ceremonies as well.
But then, we hope that not only the classes of 2022 can find inspiration from these speeches, but the family and friends attending the commencement ceremonies and the readers of the Sun-Gazette as we endeavor to cover the achievements of our classes of 2022 as well.
So congratulations to the classes of 2022 -- and to all, listen.
