"You have to have discipline and persistence."
Author Elin Hilderbrand shared this advice with aspiring writers at the 2022 James V. Brown Library Gala, but it's advice from which anyone, embarking on any sort of endeavor, can benefit.
It's advice our students and young people should take to heart. It's advice that our family and friends of all ages can apply to their careers and to their community engagement, whether it be through churches, civic organizations or other avenues of volunteering.
We are confident that it takes a lot of discipline and a lot of persistence by many people to keep our city's public library the success story that it is. We also are confident that it takes a lot of discipline and persistence by the organizers of the gala, an annual fundraiser to benefit the library, to produce what is a highlight of the year for many of our region's avid readers.
"It's really an amazing opportunity for everyone to serve as a steward of the community. Everybody can contribute to this amazing library," Executive Director Barbara S. McGary told the gala's crowd, according to the weekend edition of the Williamsport Sun-Gazette.
We appreciate the hard work and, yes, discipline and persistence of McGary, our library's staff and the volunteers of the Friends of the James V. Brown Library. It has made James V. Brown Library an unparalleled jewel and a staple of community service.
