Owners and leaders of the three businesses to win awards at the Williamsport-Lycoming Chamber of Commerce awards luncheon Thursday were, unsurprisingly, quick to thank their employees and customers and to praise each other.
As the Sun-Gazette reported in Friday's edition, Shannon Massey, senior vice president and general manager of Lycoming Engines, winner of the Staiman Family Large Business of the Year Award, praised the factory's workers for their "passion" and commitment. Brooke Bishop and Greg Stine, owners of Basil Wood Fired Kitchen and Lounge, winner of the Emerging Business Award, said the support they've received from their community and their staff has been "phenomenal." Gus Genetti, owner of the Genetti Hotel and Suites, winner of the Phillips/Plankenhorn Small Business of the Year Award, said he was "deeply touched" by the honor.
We appreciate these leaders' humility and their graciousness in sharing the credit for their businesses' successes. But we also appreciate that the Williamsport-Lycoming Chamber of Commerce recognizes all they do for our communities: the jobs created, the customers' needs met, the contributions to the civic and community fabric made and the opportunities for our communities' growth and future successes fashioned.
Their efforts are a key component to what makes life in Lycoming County sustainable for our families. Their efforts are a template for the sort of necessary investments to make our futures in Lycoming County better.
And it's good that our chamber takes opportunities each year -- opportunities like the awards luncheon -- to reflect on that.
We all should appreciate the jobs our businesses create and the opportunities to build our lives that our business community affords.
