Baseball’s return to Lycoming College certainly special

2 min read

It is only fitting that baseball is back at Lycoming College.

The collegiate team will be playing their home games in the birthplace of Little League at one of the oldest stadiums in the minor leagues -- a stadium that hosts a Major League Baseball game each year.

The players understand that connection.

"Most of the kids I've talked to in the recruiting process were really excited about the opportunity. No. 1, because of Williamsport being such a great baseball town and being recognized nationally for baseball," Coach Rick Oliveri told the Sun-Gazette for an article in this past weekend's edition.

"It's pretty special to get to play on a field that MLB players play on," Matt Worth, who previously played for Loyalsock Township High School, said. "It's kind of like that inner child in me that always wanted to be an MLB player and now that I get to play on a field that MLB players play on is pretty special."

We agree that having Lycoming College baseball back in a city with such a storied past in the sport is pretty special. We hope everyone who loves the sport takes the opportunity to see a Lycoming College game this season.

After all, baseball fits Williamsport like a glove.
