We believe Frank Pellegrino, Ken Sawyer, Tim Saar, Rick Armstead, John and Sue Best, Sharon Colt, Rebecca Elkins and Hurley Kane would agree with these words spoken by Loretta Claiborne, a Special Olympics athlete, marathon runner and advocate for people with disabilities.
Claiborne was the keynote speaker at the 2023 Lycoming County Brotherhood Alliance awards banquet. As the Sun-Gazette reported in Friday's edition, Pellegrino, Sawyer, Saar, the Bests, Colt, Elkins and Kane were all honored for the contributions they make to our communities.
Their accomplishments are widespread, from volunteering with youth sports to organizing a cold-weather shelter for the homeless and running philanthropic campaigns and endeavors.
The Central Pennsylvania Food Bank, Williamsport YWCA, the Susquehanna Health Foundation, the Community Arts Center, St. John Neumann Regional Academy and the Little League World Series are just some of the organizations to have benefited from the award winners' sense of community service.
It is truly appropriate that Lycoming County came together for an evening to express gratitude for their hard work. We hope their example -- and both Loretta Claiborne's words and example as well -- can serve as an inspiration for all of us to use our hands, our minds, our time and, yes, our voices to make our communities better for more of our neighbors and friends.
