Riverwalk expansion a cause for joy

The Susquehanna Riverwalk brings the communities of central Lycoming County together.

It provides our region’s residents with an excellent opportunity to get outside, to bicycle, walk or jog, in a way that’s convenient for our hectic schedules. It affords our region’s residents a chance to see a little of nature: Ducks and cormorants fishing in the West Branch of the Susquehanna, groundhogs, rabbits and deer along its banks.

We are glad to see plans to expand this valuable asset to Elm Park and Susquehanna State Park continue to evolve. We are confident it will be a benefit to the neighborhoods along the banks of Lycoming Creek as it meets the West Branch.

We also are glad that our county commissioners and state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources recognize the value of this path, not only to the residents of Williamsport and South Williamsport but to people across the region who visit to enjoy a walk on the Riverwalk.

It further strengthens our region as a hub for outdoor recreation and for appreciating nature. It diversifies the recreational opportunities, particularly for people who may not have the experience to enjoy more rustic hiking trails or canoeing or kayaking, or who may be limited in their options for other reasons.

We hope the planning continues smoothly, and we look forward to seeing our friends, neighbors and family enjoy a longer Susquehanna Riverwalk in the future.

Starting at $2.99/week.
