Way’s Garden improvements appreciated

2 min read

Way's Garden, the park along the corner of Fourth and Maynard streets, is looking lovelier than ever.

The city has replaced fencing, planted new plants and installed informational signs. Way's Garden offers shade and a quiet respite from daily tedium.

It's a reassuring sign of our city's commitment to its excellent parks and to serving a wide range of the public's needs with those parks.

From splash pads at Memorial and Shaw Place parks, to playgrounds at Young's Woods and Preziosi parks to the bandshell and tennis courts at Brandon Park and more, Williamsport's parks offer recreation. relaxation and community togetherness.

The Way's Garden Commission "could not do this without the donations, the commitment from the city and county government and the volunteers," Carl Bower, commission member and assistant professor of horticulture at Pennsylvania College of Technology tol the Sun-Gazette for an article in last Tuesday's edition.

"We have awesome volunteers who help out with the landscaping," commission member Paul Nyman said.

The city also used some of its allotments of federal rescue plan money, while the county provided a grant.

We are thankful for prudent stewardship of our tax dollars, and investing in our public parks is a wise course of action that can benefit all of the city's residents and visitors. And of course we share the Way's Garden Commission's gratitude for the efforts of volunteers in making these improvements a reality.
