The news in last Thursday's edition of the Williamsport Sun-Gazette truly is good news: A company that manufactures septic systems will bring new jobs to a site in Williamsport -- the Canadian company's first manufacturing plant in the United States.
Better still, Luc Langlois, the company's president, expects the site to be a hub for future expansion.
The company and other business leaders expect a strong relationship with the Pennsylvania College of Technology -- an asset that was a major factor in the company's decision to pursue this strategy.
Our region has much to offer families -- and much to offer the employers who will benefit from those families choosing to work and live in Lycoming County. We respect that our leaders understand this and are vigorous in explaining it to the world.
"We're not just opening doors; we're opening opportunities," Mayor Derek Slaughter said. "This new plant is a symbol of growth, jobs and a prosperous future."
"I am thrilled to have them in America, starting with Lycoming County," county Commissioner Marc Sortman said.
We appreciate the work that the mayor and city council, county commissioners and leaders of the business community like the Williamsport-Lycoming Chamber of Commerce have done to foster an economic climate where a transnational company is confident in our region's potential.
We hope we all can do our part to help attract and retain the variety and scope of jobs and careers our region needs to continue to grow.
