Many important votes to be cast
We understand that this election — perhaps more so than past elections — has been overwhelming, even tiresome.
We still hope every eligible voter in Lycoming County and our surrounding counties has cast or will cast informed votes.
We also, as we have editorialized upon in the past, hope that every voter’s process for reaching these informed decisions goes well beyond the presidential race.
We continue to believe that in our federalist system, many of the most important responsibilities rest not in the White House but in state and local offices.
This Tuesday not only will this presidential race conclude but so will races for the U.S. and state legislatures, for state attorney general, auditor general and treasurer. We hope voters have followed our coverage, a collaborative effort with wire services such as Spotlight PA, The Center Square and Associated Press, and can feel confident in their choices as they cast their ballots.
We understand that in an age of enormous advertising expenditures on multiple platforms and coverage from many sources slanted and, some might say, even engineered to appeal to suspicions and divisiveness that such confidence can be hard to reach.
We can only refer back to the foundations of our nation to remind everyone — that is the brilliance of our system of checks and balances. No matter what the exact nature of your suspicions and fears may be, our system invests different branches and levels of government the means to counteract the worst excesses of each other.
And that system is, no matter how much you may dislike or distrust this candidate or that candidate, why you can feel pride in America as you cast your vote.
