‘Wills for Heroes’ an admirable example

The Lycoming Law Association deserves appreciation throughout our communities for an event the organization spearheaded.

As reported in Monday’s edition of the Williamsport Sun-Gazette, the association hosted an opportunity for veterans and first responders to navigate the processes of drafting a will and other estate planning needs. About 60 veterans and first responders participated.

“Everybody needs to do it,” Chief Scott Delany of the Muncy Area Volunteer Fire Co. told the Sun-Gazette. “I recommend it highly. And it is much easier to do it here than driving all over to get it done.”

Our veterans and first responders, of course, deserve our appreciation every day of the year. Their sense of service has made both our nation and our neighborhoods the places we want to call home. Their bravery in confronting dangers to our way of life is exemplary.

Throughout the year, we often extol the virtue of contemplating how we — as individuals and families, as neighborhoods and communities and as a nation — can better support our veterans and first responders.

We are glad the Lycoming Law Association has found a way to put its members’ skills to use in assisting these heroes. We hope other organizations and entities throughout our region can follow the association’s example and find ways to express the gratitude we should all feel for our veterans and first responders through their own expertise.

Our heroes deserve it.
