We would like to take a moment to tell Owen Seitzer, the 4-year-old son of one of our associate editors, Nick Seitzer -- great job.
When the child spotted the early stages of a house fire near the family's home, he alerted adults and they all called 911 and reported what grew to be a devastating fire together.
Katie and Matthew Tobin deserve the appreciation of Hughesville as well -- as the fire was being reported, they ran to the scene and freed the residents' dogs so that they could safely escape.
No one was injured, and for that we also thank our firefighters and first responders.
As we have noted in past editorials, the work of our firefighters and first responders is vital to our communities -- and all too often underappreciated.
We are glad that when calamity struck, neighbors helped out neighbors. We hope that as communities, we can recognize that every day our neighbors who serve as firefighters, emergency medical personnel and police strive to help our neighborhoods.
We hope the efforts of these neighbors in Hughesville can inspire all members of our communities both to find ways of helping their neighborhoods and to show their gratitude for the hard and selfless work of our first responders.
