Soap Box Derby workshop a sign summer is coming
As seen in Monday’s Williamsport Sun-Gazette, participants in the 2025 Soap Box Derby were busy this past weekend building their cars ahead of the June 7 race on the Market Street Hill.
The Soap Box Derby is one of the highlights of summer in our region. The construction of the cars by the youngsters and their families also is a reminder of how much our region has to offer — how much to look forward to — during these warmer months.
First Fridays in downtown Williamsport already our underway, with an impressive turnout the day before the Soap Box Derby workshop. Soon after the race the Lycoming County Fair will arrive. And of course, the Little League World Series once again will showcase our communities to the world.
In between and beyond will be carnivals, festivals and other events in every corner of our region — honestly, too many to list here. And of course, as we mentioned in our April 21 editorial, our region and our state offers unparalleled opportunities for camping, hiking, fishing and other outdoors recreation.
We hope everyone takes the opportunity to find and attend the events they will most enjoy. We hope everyone appreciates the hard, unceasing work, often throughout the year, that organizers, many of them volunteers, put in so that these events can happen.
We know that unfortunately many people complain that our region does not offer anything to do. We must correct that record. We hope this summer, more people can enjoy the rich variety of activities throughout our region and, again, appreciate how much summer in Lycoming County and the surrounding counties has to offer.
