We are excited and optimistic about the announcement in Friday's Sun-Gazette that Verne Inc. is building a plant near Muncy and creating more than 50 full-time jobs -- and we believe every member of the surrounding communities should be as well.
"After conducting a nationwide search, we determined that North Central Pennsylvania was the perfect place to establish our manufacturing footprint," Verne Inc. co-founder Ted McKlveen said.
We, of course, agree. Our region has much to offer employers and we hope more and more employers recognize the balance and complimentary nature of our region's assets.
As we have frequently editorialized, our state and region needs more jobs and needs a consistent, bipartisan push to attract those jobs.
We appreciate what our county and municipal leaders and state lawmakers have done to keep officials' focus on this critical task.
And, while we have reservations about many aspects of Gov. Josh Shapiro's tenure -- some of which we expressed most recently in Monday's editorial -- we appreciate that, on this issue, Shapiro's efforts have likewise been exemplary.
On both job creation and the development of affordable housing, much still needs to be done. But Verne Inc.'s decision to build a plant in our county is both a step in the right direction and an indicator that our state, county and local officials understand the seriousness of these critical issues.
