Warmer weather a sign of blessings to come

The front page and outdoors section of Tuesday’s Williamsport Sun-Gazette shared images of the state Fishing and Boating Commission and volunteers stocking the streams with trout.

It’s yet another indicator that spring and warmer weather are arriving — and a source of excitement for many looking forward to what that warmer weather brings.

Fishing. Hiking. Canoeing and kayaking. Chances to enjoy the great outdoors.

As we have editorialized before, our region is blessed with its forests, rivers and streams and hills.

We hope families in every community in Lycoming County and surrounding counties can appreciate these natural wonders — and appreciate how these natural wonders contribute to our region’s families.

Fishing and other outdoors recreation creates jobs and provides lifelines to small businesses throughout our region.

Just as importantly, it is an activity that can bring family members across generations together — and teach younger generations about the joys and wonders of our natural world.

We hope in the coming weeks that our readers take opportunities to enjoy the great outdoors — whether that includes fishing, hiking, bicycling or any of the activities for which our region is known.

Starting at $2.99/week.
