Veterans Memorial Park deserves support
We are glad our city government and Pennsylvania College of Technology reached an agreement for the college to provide work on the Veterans Memorial Park on Wahoo Drive. We appreciate the students’ hard work on maintaining the park, the school’s leadership in facilitating the project and the leadership over the years of our city and county government in supporting the park.
Of course, we are thankful, as always for the service of our veterans. The importance of adequately expressing that gratitude — a daunting task — is why we have editorialized for years in favor of the park and of the ceremonies and observations held in the park for Memorial Day and other milestones.
Their bravery and selflessness have defended Americans and American values for 250 years. From the revolution on, America’s armed forces have confronted ideologies that treat the unalienable rights of men and women as suspect, even alien, through the civil war, world wars and the cold war and its related conflicts.
It is only right that our city and county honor their sacrifices and service, and the Veterans Memorial Park is an important part of the process of honoring veterans.
