With the Grand Slam parade less than a week away and the 2026 Little League Baseball World Series stretching out past that, it is perhaps expected for our minds to turn to baseball.
The Williamsport Crosscutters hosted their famous "Make Your Cutters Debut" promotion, featured in last Friday's edition of the Sun-Gazette. Fans signed up for the chance to sign a special one-day pro contract with Billtown's ballclub, with Williamsport native Trevor Hall the latest community member to achieve that dream for a day.
"I'm excited to feel the energy of the guys," Hall told the Sun-Gazette. "And to get to be out of the field, ya know? Many Hall of Famers have been on that field. Also to throw a ceremonial first pitch, it's pretty nice just to be a part of it."
"It's a great opportunity," Hall exclaimed. "I love it. It is a dream come true."
Between the founding of Little League Baseball and the games played at historic Bowman Field, Williamsport and its surrounding communities have been blessed with a fortunate space in the history of America's pastime.
Beyond the history, we are fortunate to see our communities continue the traditions of the Williamsport Crosscutters and Minor League Baseball and the Little League World Series in our region. It is awesome to see families experience the joy of making memories at games -- from the Crosscutters to the stands in South Williamsport at the World. It is an honor, as we have editorialized frequently in past years, to be the focus of sports fans for two weeks -- and an opportunity to show the character and values of our region's families and communities.
